The psychedelic and indie-rock musings of Shiny Glide have almost always been catalysed by the feeling of entrapment and isolation. A one-man-project armed with a fender guitar and Arturia midi controller, locked down in his home in Italy by pandemic strife with a household with no respect for his artistic vision or his progressive societal values, it was here that Shiny Glide worked tirelessly to produce his ninth musical wonder ‘Nocturnal Flight’.
A record replete with endless luscious vistas, Shiny Glide has unveiled a touching sentiment of unity and love through the universal language of music to a world cursed by the plagues of racism and injustice. Released 22/10/21, there’s never been a better time to fully immerse yourself in Shiny Glide’s world of trip-hazards and tranquillity.
Having cut off his family of origin – since their insulting nature would often diminish his ambitions – the multi- instrumentalist now lives in Rome with his wife, still diligent to his passion and worldview; his motivations remain the goodwill of humanity as opposed to mere financial gain. He explains: “I don’t make music for others or for the masses but to treasure a divine and universal language and to survive the best way I can in a pretty sad and horrible world and society”.
This translates perfectly to Nocturnal Flight’s breathless serenity, the ten-track collection projects a lucid dream for listeners to glide in and out of with the record’s lead track, ‘In danger of extinction’, sporting a gorgeous palette of sonorous guitar strokes and synth arrangements; providing the perfect getaway from reality’s shortcomings. It’s music that surpasses mere sound and into the realms of ‘feeling’ and this comes as no shock considering Shiny Glide is also an accomplished, prolific and inspired poet. Lyrically the album’s title-track is a visionary, existentialist and dark poem, an emotional and poignant inner struggle that highlights a paradoxical mixture of disillusion and hope, happily contemplating and compensating each other in the stark reality of a psychedelic prayer.
With a robust tracklist dominated by Glide’s self-professed “very fast and very instinctive” song writing methods, Shiny Glide has not only emerged with another excellent instalment to his rapidly growing archives, but has provided the ideal safe space for those growing tired of the world’s seemingly endless undoing.
