“Urgent and commanding” The Guardian

“Lusts take their cues from new wave, with glimmering synth lines piercing through urgent swathes of guitar” NME

“They’re like hidden gems, a newfound relic of a generation lost”The Line of Best Fit

Lusts, the recording pseudonym of brothers Andrew and James Stone, have returned with the video for their vital new single ‘lost highway’, a pulsating, motoric anthem that marks the arrival of their second LP later in the year. The recently released track has already gained the attention of Radio 1, Radio X and Amazing.

The new video filmed by Liam Keown & Silk Jaguar is a hypnotic, psychedelic dream and puts you right in the middle of their abstract, Lynchian world.

Utilizing the haunting, reverb-drenched production of classic 80’s post-punk as well as the glistening sheen of the iconic synth-pop the decade is so famous for, Lusts recall the likes of The Cure and Echo And The Bunnymen while exploring a rich soundscape more akin to current contemporaries CHVRCHES. Off the back of both the critical and commercial reception of their debut album ‘Illuminations’, the band have been relentlessly recording and perfecting their live sound, fresh from a recent UK tour as well as an electric showcase at this year’s Great Escape.  The next live dates planned will follow the second album later this year in London, Manchester and Leicester.

“‘lost highway’ is an idealized and romanticized vision” Andrew tells us, “It’s about finding a place where no-one knows who you are, your past, or your future. It is partially inspired by Jean Baudrillard’s book ‘America’ and his observations as he travels across the country. The quote, ‘Driving is a spectacular form of amnesia. Everything is to be discovered, everything to be obliterated’ resonated with us and made us want to create this track. It’s about the everything and nothing-ness of escape.”

The track was also inspired by the visuals of David Lynch, James explains; “We like to write our tracks to visuals, and Lynch always manages to help conjure musical ideas for us. He has a recurring shot across his works of a car driving at night, as you watch the road ahead, descending into darkness. We wanted to create a sonic version of this.”

In 2015, Lusts announced their arrival with the instantly infectious single ‘Temptation’, winning Steve Lamacq’s Rebel Playlist and followed by acclamatory features for their debut album in the likes of The Guardian, Q Magazine and NME. Huw Stephens later premiered the album on Radio 1, with the title-track playlisted on BBC 6 Music.
